Parogon Group, The Orange Tree, Congleton
Wallace Contracts Ltd had the honour of working with Parogon Group on a major refurbishment of The Orange Tree in Congleton. This project revitalised a historic Grade II listed building, transforming it into a stylish, contemporary bar & grill venue that respects its architectural heritage while offering a modern dining experience.
Parogon acquired the former Cheshire Tavern and invested heavily—around £1 million—into a full renovation. The Orange Tree now offers a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere, with design carefully crafted to balance “Georgian glamour” with Parogon’s modern hospitality identity.
Wallace Contracts’ role centred on internal decoration. Our skilled decorators applied a deep, rich colour palette throughout the venue, using high-quality, scrub‑resistant paint to ensure longevity in a high-footfall hospitality environment. Crown Trade Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt was used—a highly durable, stain-resistant paint that can withstand frequent cleaning without losing its saturation or finish. biid.org.uk The bold colour scheme—emerald greens and rich blues—complements the building’s original features, while crisp white on ceilings and reveals accents the architecture.
Because the building is Grade II listed, preserving its character was a priority. Our work was coordinated carefully with Parogon and their design partner (IMD & Associates) to maintain or restore original design elements: architectural mouldings, sash windows, intricate staircases, and decorative ceiling roses. imddesign.co.uk We worked in phases to minimise disruption and ensure that all decoration was of the highest quality, blending craftsmanship with respect for the venue’s past.
The result is a beautifully refurbished venue that delivers on Parogon Group’s vision: a cosmopolitan yet warm bar & grill that draws locals and visitors alike. The interior feels elegant and timeless, but with enough energy to work for both relaxed meals and vibrant evenings.
This refurbishment is more than cosmetic — it adds long-term value. The high-grade finishes and thoughtful design reduce future maintenance, and the restored building enhances the guest experience, reinforcing Parogon’s standards of service and design. By breathing new life into this landmark structure, Wallace Contracts helped Parogon create a strong legacy in Congleton’s dining scene.
